FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the MK-III and the MK-IVc?

The MK-III can process up to approximately 2lbs of plant material at a time with the 6"x12" collection spool while the MK-IVc can process up to approximately 5lbs of plant material at a time. The MK-III does not have any view ports on the collection pot while the MK-IVc comes standard with 2 view ports on the collection pot. The MK-III does not allow for multiple recovery pumps, while the MK-IVc is built with two recovery ports allowing dual recovery to speed up the overall operation run-time. The MK-IVc carries the engineering certification stamp as required in the states of Washington and Colorado, something that the MK-III does not.

How much solvent is lost during extraction?
As long as the operating procedures are followed correctly, the MK-III and MK-IVc are capable of recycling 99.9% of the solvent used in extraction.

Do your extraction units come with a warranty?
Yes, our extractors have a warranty of 90 days from date of purchase.  All recovery pumps, vacuum pumps, gas detectors, ovens, and scales will need to be warrantied through item's specific manufacturer (Across International, Mastercool, etc).

What solvents can I use with your extractors?
Our extractors can be used with N-Butane, Iso-Butane, N-Propane or any mixture of the three solvents. Please contact us for compatibility with any other solvents.

What kind of yields can your extractor provide?
The yield depends on a range of variables including, but not limited to, the method of the extraction, the temperature of the solvent, the temperature of the material, and the quality of the material. Our extractors are able to provide the maximum yield from the material packed into the column. Alternatively, you can use the extractor to maximize quality of the product over the quantity. Therefore, the yield depends on the operator and the goal of the extraction.

Are your extractors easy to clean and how often should they be cleaned?
The stainless steel component of the extractors should be cleaned after every extraction with 91% or higher isopropyl alcohol. Be sure to take special care when cleaning Viton rubber gaskets as prolonged exposure to alcohol will degrade the gasket.

Do you offer training on your extractors?
Yes, we offer free training on how to safely and properly use our extractors. We host a monthly demonstration at our headquarters in Fort Collins, Colorado in which we showcase the operation and capabilities of our extractors and have a Q&A session. Please contact us for dates and availability of our next demonstration (970-572-1911). Additionally, we provide complimentary over-the-phone technical support for existing customers.

Can I run my extractor indoors?
Anytime dangerous, explosive gases (Example: N-Butane, Iso-Butane, N-Propane) are used the work space should be an open, unobstructed, well ventilated area with ABSOLUTELY NO IGNITION SOURCES. We recommend operating our extractors with a hazardous exhaust system to ensure adequate ventilation is always maintained. As ignition of these gases can result in severe injury or death, extreme care should be used at all times.

Do I need to use a recovery pump with the MK-III and MK-IV extractors?
The MK-III and MK-IV extractors are designed to be used with a recovery pump which speeds up extraction times, recovers 99% of solvent used, and allows for the extraction to be conducted at much colder temperatures which can produce a higher quality product. However, our extractors are very efficient at passive recovery when a recovery pump is not desired or available. Please contact technical support for information on passive recovery.

Are your extractors and sight glasses tested before they are shipped out?
After we build our extractors on site in our warehouse in Fort Collins, Colorado; we extensively test every fully assembled extractor and sight glass to ensure the safety of our customers and the effectiveness of the equipment. We conduct a water immersion test on the extractor while pressurized at 120 PSI with nitrogen gas. The MK-IVc is subjected to a pressure release test above 120 PSI. Our sight glasses are tested to at least 350 PSI.

When will my order be shipped?
We realize your extractor and/or parts are very important to your operation. Our team works very hard to ensure that every order is shipped as soon as possible. Standard lead time is 1 to 2 weeks for assembly, testing, proper packaging, and shipping. Rush orders may be placed to receive your extractor within a shorter period.  Orders in-stock typically ship within 1 to 2 business days.
